Recovering from a knee replacement, hip replacement or shoulder surgery? Shine Alliance brings post surgery rehab to your home, anywhere on the Gold Coast, so your recovery starts the week you leave hospital rather than when you're finally able to drive.
Total knee replacement: the most common surgery we see, and where early home physio makes the biggest difference
Total hip replacement: safe movement, precaution management and confident walking
Shoulder surgery: rotator cuff repairs and reconstructions
Spinal surgery, fracture repairs and ACL reconstructions
General reconditioning after any hospital stay, regaining the strength you lost in bed
Hospital to home, without the gap
The riskiest part of surgical recovery is the gap: you're discharged, you can't drive, the hospital physio
has handed over, and your first outpatient appointment is weeks away. Meanwhile swelling builds, the joint
stiffens and confidence drops.
We close that gap. Book before your surgery (or from your hospital bed, families often do), and your first
home visit happens within days of discharge. Discharge planners can refer directly through our
referrals page.
What your recovery looks like
Every program follows your surgeon's protocol, but a typical knee replacement recovery with us runs like
this:
Weeks 1–2: swelling management, gentle range-of-motion work, safe walking and stairs practice in your actual home.
Weeks 3–6: progressive strengthening, walking further, weaning off walking aids as it's safe to.
Weeks 6–12: return to driving, hobbies and normal life, with balance work so one surgery doesn't lead to one fall.
Most post-surgical clients use private health extras or pay privately; a GP care plan (Medicare CDM) can
rebate part of up to five visits. DVA card holders and
Home Care Package clients may be fully covered. Call
0490 427 392 before your operation and we'll map out costs so there are no surprises during recovery.

Post-surgery rehab FAQs
How soon after my knee replacement should physio start?
Ideally within the first week of coming home. The first six weeks after a knee replacement are when the joint is most responsive, so early, consistent physio protects your range of motion and gets you walking confidently sooner. If you’re booked for surgery, contact us beforehand and we’ll have your first home visit ready for discharge week.
I can’t drive after surgery. Is that why people choose home rehab?
It’s the most common reason. After a knee or hip replacement you typically can’t drive for 4–6 weeks, which is exactly when rehab matters most. Home visits remove that barrier completely. Research shows home-based rehab after joint replacement achieves outcomes equal to clinic programs.
What does post-surgical physio at home involve?
Early on: wound-safe exercises, swelling management, walking practice and getting confident on stairs. As you heal we progress strength, balance and range of motion, and set you up to return to driving, work and hobbies. Everything follows your surgeon’s protocol, and we send progress updates before your surgical reviews.
Do you treat shoulder and other surgeries too, or just knees and hips?
We provide home rehab after most orthopaedic surgeries (shoulder reconstructions and rotator cuff repairs, spinal surgery, fractures, and ACL and other knee procedures), as well as reconditioning after cardiac or general surgery. If you’re unsure, call us and we’ll tell you honestly whether home rehab suits your situation.
How is post-surgery rehab funded?
Private health extras, Medicare care plans via your GP, DVA, or private payment all work. Some hospital programs and insurers also fund hospital-to-home rehab. Call us with your situation and we’ll find the simplest option before your first visit.
Recovery stories from our clients
Real reviews from our Google profile.
I recently had a total knee replacement at the Gold Coast hospital. Rather than twice weekly outpatient rehab, I have received mobile physio services with Shine Alliance. I have found the service to be extremely convenient and the care I have received has been excellent. I would certainly recommend this service to others looking for at home physiotherapy.

I highly recommend Jess who was my mobile physio providing rehabilitation therapy after my bi-lateral knee replacements. His knowledge, guidance and exercises have assisted me greatly in my recovery with the convenience of him coming to my home for the service.

Jesse has been regularly visiting my 93 yr cousin after he suffered a broken hip. His mobility was nil and now, after Jesse worked his magic, he can now stand and mobilise with assistance. I can definitely say without Jesse's input my cousin would not be where he is today. Forever grateful to Shine Alliance Physio especially Jesse.
