Frequently Asked Questions

Everything people ask us before their first home visit: costs, funding, what to expect and more. If your question isn't here, call us. A real person answers, and there's never any pressure to book.

Your questions, answered

How much does a home visit cost?

It depends on your funding. NDIS, DVA and WorkCover clients are covered by their plans or schemes; Home Care Package clients pay through their package; Medicare care plans rebate part of up to five visits per year. Private clients pay a flat home-visit fee (call 0490 427 392 for current pricing). We always confirm the full cost with you before your first visit, so there are no surprises.

What happens at the first home visit?

Your physiotherapist arrives, sits down with you and starts by listening: your history, your concerns and what you want to get back to. Then a physical assessment: strength, movement, balance and anything specific to you. By the end you’ll have a clear explanation of what’s going on and a plan, including how many visits we recommend. First visits usually take about an hour.

What should I prepare before a visit?

Very little. Comfortable clothes you can move in, a little clear floor space, and any relevant paperwork (referral letters, scans, medication lists) if you have them. We bring all the equipment. Pets are welcome to supervise.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

Not for private, NDIS or Home Care Package clients. You can book directly. You only need a GP referral for Medicare care plan rebates (CDM/EPC), DVA (a D904 form) or WorkCover claims.

Which suburbs do you cover?

The whole Gold Coast: Tweed Heads to Coomera and Hope Island, plus the Pimpama–Logan corridor. See the Service Areas page for the full suburb list, or just call and ask about your address.

Are you registered with the NDIS?

We support NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed, which covers most participants. We are not currently a registered NDIS provider, so agency-managed (NDIA-managed) participants can't use our services yet. See our NDIS physiotherapy page for how funding and travel billing work in plain English.

Can I use my private health insurance?

If your extras cover includes physiotherapy, you can claim part of your session fee back from your fund after paying us. Rebate amounts vary by fund and level of cover, so it’s worth a quick call to your insurer.

How long are the sessions?

Initial assessments run about 60 minutes. Follow-up visits are typically 30–45 minutes depending on your needs and funding. We never rush out the door mid-conversation. The schedule includes breathing room.

How many visits will I need?

It genuinely depends. A straightforward injury might need four to six visits, post-surgical rehab often runs eight to twelve weeks, and some NDIS and aged care clients benefit from ongoing support. After your first assessment we’ll give you an honest recommendation, and we’ll tell you when we think you no longer need us.

What is your cancellation policy?

Life happens. Just give us as much notice as you can. We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a cancellation fee (NDIS clients: cancellation terms follow the NDIS rules in your service agreement). If you’re unwell, please call and we’ll reschedule without fuss.

Is a home visit really as good as a clinic session?

For the people we treat, usually better. We see your real environment (stairs, bathroom, bed height), so treatment targets your actual daily life. The research agrees: home-based rehab achieves outcomes equal to clinic care for common conditions like joint replacement recovery and falls prevention.

Do you treat people in aged care facilities or retirement villages?

Yes. Alongside private homes, we visit retirement villages, over-50s communities and residential aged care facilities across the Gold Coast.

Can family members or support workers sit in on sessions?

Absolutely. We encourage it. Family and support workers who understand your program can help you practise between visits, which speeds up progress. With your consent, we’ll also keep family informed of how you’re tracking.

What if I’m not happy with my physiotherapist?

Tell us, directly and without awkwardness. Good therapy depends on a good fit, and we’d rather adjust our approach or arrange a different clinician than have you quietly stop treatment. Feedback goes straight to the practice owner.

Do you offer telehealth?

Our core service is in-person home visits, but we can use telehealth for exercise program check-ins between visits where it helps, for example during illness or travel. Ask us if that would suit your situation.

How do I make a referral for someone else?

Family members, support coordinators, GPs and care managers refer people to us every week. Use the forms on our Referrals page or call us. Referring takes under three minutes and we make contact within one business day.

Still have a question? The fastest way to an answer is a phone call, or send a message through our contact page and we'll get back to you within one business day. You can also learn more about how mobile physio works or how to refer someone.
